The museums in Paris were awesome, but a day visiting tiny little shops along the narrow streets in the Montmartre area of Paris was a highlight of this trip. Everywhere we turned there were handmade studio / shops with artists willing to share insights about their work.
At this little altelier called Lune Paris, the designer was creating stylish hats, pins, vests and more using vintage neckties. I bought a handmade silk tie for Jim. Sylvia and Darcy bought some wonderful accessories. The owner/designer was soooo nice. It was a fun experience to chat with her. Check out the photos on the Lune website!
Great shops were scattered throughout the district. One of my favorites was called funny little store called Tombees du Camion. It reminded me of a tiny combination of Ann Arbor's Peaceable Kingdom and FOUND. This place was packed with what we call "new, old stock" - vintage stuff that has never been used. Here's a sampling:
Honestly, the whole store was less than 12 feet wide - it was packed! I got some good display ideas.
There were some interesting galleries in the area, too.
check out these jug lights... the sign on the door said galeriew.com.
Shops were open late, so we visited as many as possible.
Late in the evening, we found ourselves at Sacre-Coeur - a beautiful basilica overlooking all of Paris. Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament has continued uninterrupted in the Basilica since 1885. There was a mood of contemplation and prayer in this holy place.
More later...
