I loved the Paris flea markets! On our first Saturday we went to a market called Vanves. That's where I found the little assortment of antique stationary and ephemera that I brought back to FOUND.
Knowing that I wouldn't have much room in my suitcase, I stuck mostly to paper things because they travel well - like the vintage patisserie sugar bags below. Sucre on one side - suiker on the reverse (french/dutch?). I picked up about a dozen of them 'cause I thought they'd be fun for reusable gift bags - or to fill with a jar full of flowers!
These blue and white labels with the great chef graphic were intended for white pepper containers, but would be fun to frame up in the kitchen.
Picked up some beautiful handmade wrapping paper sheets with violets. And vintage packaging, intended for soaps, but never used.
We only had about 3 (freezing cold) hours to shop at Vanves. Next time I go to Paris, I'll arrive earlier - and bring more euro!
This wonderful flea market runs Saturday and Sunday mornings throughout the year and is located in the southwest part of Paris. There was an amazing assortment of linens, buttons, advertizing items, dishes, postcards, household goods, jewelry and other "smalls". What fun to discover treasures in every little booth.
The following Saturday, Sylvia and I went to the more famous markets at Porte de Clignancourt, officially called Les Puces de Saint-Ouen. Though I didn't purchase much, I took some photos, so I"ll show a couple of my favorite things from that outing in the next post.
Warm regards,
Mary
p.s. I'll announce the winner of the Paris ephemera in the next post. Don't worry, I didn't forget!
