Seed packet cards and antique botanical prints

 

We now have vintage flower packet labels.  AND handmade cards that Laurie made by layering them over wonderful vintage papers and images - all original, not photocopies. The cards are blank inside and of fabulous french paper.

  

I also found some antique handcolored botanicals, from Vienna, 1860's.  I'm writing this from home and don't have any in-focus photos of them here...  the top picture shows one in the background.  They are lovely - and also have a lovely price of only $25 each or 3/$60.  (We sell matts cut to fit them into 8x10 frame)  A nice gift for Mother's Day.

For your Spring table

 

When most bloggers write about "your Spring table" I imagine they would talk about fresh aspargus or rhubarb... and the recipes to prepare them.  At FOUND, it means we've received a new order of candles from Point a la Ligne!   I'm still waiting for the rest of the order, we do have more asparagus, fresh pea pods and little pots of tomatoes on their way.  Shown above are the baby lettuces in wax pots and beautiful lemons.   Beautiful in your kitchen or as part of a special buffet!

 

These lovely iris in pots came in white, lavender and yellow.  The small flowers shown are floating candles, lovely in a bowl of water.

 

We now have several nice sets of vintage china in stock.  I love the hollyhocks and cottage on this set. 

 

And if you're still looking for recipes to put on the pretty plates and platters, I just found a bunch of vintage cookbooks!

Don't just recycle and reuse....up-cycle!

 

I recently heard the term "upcycle" to refer to normally discarded items, that are not only reused, but are taken up a notch from their original purpose.   These purses and totes, made in Michigan by "The Burlap Boutique" from used coffee shipping bags, certainly fit that definition!  The attention to detail and use of thrift shop materials for handles and linings provide the finishing touch.  Teresa brought these bags in about 6 weeks ago - and needed to bring in more last week because half of them had sold already!

 

Each bag is unique.  I love the texture. 

Over the weekend I found the vintage barkcloth curtain panels below.  They would be great used for their original purpose - to cover the window.  Or would make wonderful throw pillow fabric.  I also like to use these as runners on a table.

 

The earrings we carry from "Bottled Up Designs" are another good example of upcycling.  These are made from broken red glass beer bottles... in the 1940's, Anchor Hocking, the same company that made ruby red glasses and vases made Schlitz beer bottles.  

 

On Saturday, we're having a "Sit and Stitch" session at FOUND where vintage thrift shop jackets and skirts will be recycled/upcycled into penny rug pillows and other fun things.  Anne has prepared all the circles - we'll be learning traditional folk art stitches to put these circles together.  The link above has the details.

FestiFools coming to Ann Arbor

There will be a lot of foolishness on Main Street in Ann Arbor this Sunday from 4 - 5 p.m. as giant puppets and musicans take over the street with festive exhuberance.   This wonderful collaboration is called FestiFools - and you can find out about it at this link:  http://festifools.org/. For months folks have been mucking around with their hands in huge pots of paste and making paper mache figures out of recycled newspapers.   

Photographer extraordinaire, Myra Klarman, has been chronicling the process with photos on her blog.  Below is the studio where many of the puppets are being created - note the size of the artists vs. characters.
