Friday night was the opening reception for our February special exhibit at FOUND. The middle section of the shop is devoted to assemblage art, handmade books and antique momentos that fit the theme "assembled memories". The wintery weather kept the crowds aways, but those who braved the snow and wind had a wonderful time. Here are a few images from the evening:
Play Fair Assemblage Box. This is by a relative newbie to the assemblage art arena - Anne Sheills. Anne is a longtime customer who started working at Found over the holidays. She is an accomplished calligrapher who is expanding her art world. I just love having Anne around. She thinks I'm an artist... and that FOUND is the "box" where I create. That's an interesting concept.
Anne has 3 pieces in this show. Each incorporates found objects that she has found at FOUND.
Julianne LaBeau is an artist from Port Huron, Michigan. This microscope box is an amazing collection called "Adventures in the Wild". Her work inspired this show. She brought in 11 pieces - mostly handmade books - back in December. They were just too unique to mix in with all the holiday things we had in the shop at that point. Since February is usually a transition and kinda blah month in the retail business, I decided to tuck her art away until February and plan a month of activities around the scavenger theme. The next series of photos show some of her other pieces. Each page in her assemblage books is a separate little work of art. They are amazing...
Julianne also creates blank journals. She will be bringing a suitcase full of them to Found next time she comes to Ann Arbor.
Here are some more pictures of the evening and the art that is featured in February:

This salvaged workshop box assemblage with antique tintypes is by local artist Terri Sarris. This photo doesn't do it justice, it's one of my favorites in the show!
A good time was had by all on Friday night! For more info or to purchase any of the artwork shown, stop by, email or give us a call.
Warm regards!
