20% off "OLD STUFF" Sale begins Friday!

  The "old stuff" is anything in the shop that is vintage or antique - which covers a lot of stuff at FOUND!   This is an annual thing that we do to clear things out a bit before we transform the shop for the holidays.  This sale begins Friday, Oct. 19 and runs through Nov. 4th - but if you are in the area, stop in at the beginning for first dibs on the best ... like this amber depression glass.  Very "Martha" for your Thanksgiving dinner.

  All our vintage ephemera and books will also be 20% off - sheet music, postcards, 1890's check stubs, alphabet cards, photographs, tintypes, teaching aids, music books... At FOUND, we love old paper and prints, so we are always bringing in more neat things that artists and scrapbookers and other creative folks can put to use. 

What else is here now that will be in the sale?  Several Red Wing crocks - perfect for fall displays or to store firewood beside your hearth this winter.  Old Tinker Toys and building sets. Old games and game parts.  White ironstone chamber pots - perfect for hiding that extra roll of toilet paper in the bathroom.  2 antique "champaign" chairs from the mid 1800's and a funky mid-century modern chair designed by Chernin.  Little stools and metal kids chairs.   Very chippy (horrible condition) architectual trim pieces and old tin ceiling corner tiles.  An old wood shank golf club.  Vintage rick-rack and buttons.  Cozy chenille bedspreads and warm wool blankets.  An antique doll bed with spool legs - this is an old handmade example, kinda tippy, but charming!

Vintage Cameras

I'm facinated by old cameras.  Here are some photos that Jenny took of vintage cameras we have at FOUND right now.  I'm always looking for vintage deco style examples.  Those are getting harder to find.  I also like the folding bellows - especially when they are a different color than the usual black.  This red No. 9 Ansco is in horrible condition, but still has a great look.  The old Brownie models are fun, too.  People identify with them....

The photos taken before the digital age are amazing in the detail they captured.  There will be some 100 year old photo with a dozen people in it and you can take a magnifying glass and discove that the spot in front is really a little black dog with a white face.

Before I opened FOUND, I had a little home-based business making video keepsakes from peoples old family photographs.  I would scan hundreds of pictures for a project, then add music and titles - working closely with the family to come up with sections that captured the things that were most significant in their lives.  For practice, I did a 50th Anniversary video for my own parents.  The similarities through the generations jump out in projects like that.  Pulling out 1960's pictures of us jumping off the raft at the lake AND photos of all our kids doing the same thing 3 decades later.  Photos remind us that we are connected.

   

Halloween Treats!

Jenny came and took photos again and they are wonderful - here are some of the halloween things in the shop. 

We have beautiful handcrafted witches by michigan artist Stacy French. The details are amazing - she uses vintage crepe paper for the costumes and hand-stitches details.  She also made the paper mache cat with the party hat in the other photo.

These cute little jack-o-lanterns and pillows are another halloween decoration we sell. Most of them are gone already.  But I have 2 of the black cat pillows left, with a zipper for the mouth.  They are only $18!  So cheap, it's almost scary...

See the divided amber depression glass plates under the scary cat pumpkin?  We have a dozen dinner plates, plus tumblers and cups in this pretty old pattern - very "martha" for your thanksgiving table!
