We were already excited that Sally Jean is coming to FOUND ... but yesterday we got a long distance phone call from Brad (Mr. Sally Jean) that put the icing on the cake.  Sally Jean is bringing PRIZES to our evening event on September 9th!  It's  your chance to WIN a Sally Jean ORIGINAL - ohh, la, la.... a tiara will be the main raffle prize!  Can you believe it?   

All you have to do to be entered in this Fantabulous Raffle is to join us for An Artful Evening in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  This event will feature Mediterranean-inspired food & wine pairings and lots of fun and artful goodies.

Here are the details:  It's Sunday, Sept. 9th   5:30 - 8:00 at everyday cook*,  just down the hall from FOUND.  407 North Fourth Avenue in the Kerrytown Market & Shops,  Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104 

In addition to artful cuisine, Sally Jean (she'll be the one with the tiara) promises lots of SURPRISES and a SHOW-N-TELL that offers a peek into her artful creativity.  We'll move the Trunk Show to this area, just in case you need more to go through all the pretty little things she's bringing.  All that and Prizes, too - what a fun time we'll have!

Artisan dolls - on sale

....summer is winding down and we're clearing the decks and lowering prices on things we've had for awhile at FOUND and www.foundgallery.com.  It's time to move these sweet handmade dolls by artist Jacqueline Baird (aka Huckleberry Tree) out.  Aren't they adorable?  They have been making me smile all summer as they brightened up our displays! But just this week we got an order of Halloween and Christmas dolls from her - those will be tucked away until the right moment.  Our holiday open house will be in early November - that seems ages away right now!

I love "faces" and if I did art, I would probably make little people out of all kinds of found objects - and I see figures & faces in lots of the "stuff" I gather for the shop.  Tinkertoys, old bone underwear buttons, rusty hardware...can't draw a face worth a darn, but see faces in all sorts of things... and makes me grin when I see what artists do to turn innate objects into figures - like these by at www.catbishop.blogspot.com - I love her work and someday hope to have it at FOUND.  We sell lots of vintage cameras and her camera people would be right at home on my camera shelf!

Gotta get back to work.

doodle-oo!

Only 2 weeks until our big event - the Sally Jean Trunk Show, followed by an ARtful Evening with Mediterranean-inspired food/wine pairings.

We decided to offer a show special that day:  Free doodle-oo charm with purchase of 6 Charms... and Sally Jean will be bringing hundreds and hundreds to choose from!  The photo shows some of her doodle-oo's on a bracelet.  They're even better in person!

Now I can do PHOTOS!

Well, after messing around for about an hour and a half, I finally figured out how to make the pictures a size that can be seen!  So here are some pictures. 

That's me on the right, shortly after FOUND opened in 2005.  We had those terrific paintings by Tracy Wagner from Georgia - they all sold.  We now have 4 of her paintings done over vintage wallpaper.  One of them might go home with me!  It's fun to display art with vintage toys and Dick & Jane books.  We especially like old flash cards from that era and try to have them in stock all the time.

Here's another thing that we have in the store all of the time.  Typewriter key jewelry made by my friend Amy Lagler.  She'll do custom orders if you want a special word spelled out

Kay's friend, Jenny, takes product shots for me. When I asked Jenny to take photos of a old toy truck for my website.  She looked at it and said we needed some asphalt for the background for that semi.... it amazes me the creative people that have come my way since I opened FOUND.  Jenny is definately one of them. 

Yesterday I took a break from the shop and went antiquing in a little town called Stockbridge, Michigan.  Hadn't been there in ages...it's not far, only about 40 miles.  I'll try to wrestle the digital camera away from my son long enough to take some pictures.  And in the meantime, maybe I'll figure out why the layout doesn't look the same on the page I'm typing on as it does when I post it....
